why can't refrigerators be laid down

Image
refrigerators are designed to work in specific positions, and laying them down can cause the compressor to malfunction. Refrigerators are usually made with an upright position in mind so they can use gravity to their advantage. Air is pulled into the fridge through vents on the back of it, which way when it is laid down these vents need to be covered which would interfere with air coming in and out of the fridge causing it not to cool properly. Another issue when refrigerated is turned upside down is that water will leak from its evaporator coil onto its electrical components and cause a short circuit that could be hazardous for anyone nearby .    Image source: https://www.amazon.com/ Refrigerator tips: -Place old newspapers under your refrigerator before you lift it up. This will prevent scratching your floor. -Do not move your refrigerator when it is full of food and drinks. -Check that the door closes properly and that there is no damage to the hinges before you lift yo

why are the cooling coils of a refrigerators made of copper

Image
Copper is the best conductor of heat, which makes it perfect for cooling purposes.    Image source: https://www.reliancedigital.in/ Its high thermal conductivity allows almost all the heat from a refrigerator to drain out to the sink or condenser coil on its own, without any additional work required by the refrigerator. This is why copper isn't used for many other things, such as heat sinks."   Image source: https://www.amazon.com/ The article talks about why refrigerators are made out of copper and how copper is used in cooling coils. It also talks about how copper is not used in other places and that since it's a good conductor of heat it allows almost all of the refrigerators "heat" to escape on its own, therefore no extra work has to be put into it.   Image source: https://pinterest.com/ Something I learned from reading this article is basically that copper is used in refrigerators because it's a good conductor of heat, I never knew that and it wa
